Tennengebirge Mountains
Scene 23

In a beautiful setting protected by a formidable wall of stone, Tennengebirge is not a single mountain peak but is instead, a large ridge of limestone sharply rising up from the Salzburg valley.  At its plateau regions, some of the worlds oldest caves are visible.  Their formation took place at a time when the Northern Alps were just rolling hills.

This area’s beauty is arguably the best in the world.  It’s no wonder why scenes from The Sound of Music were filmed here.  Pictured above is the meadow where Maria first taught the basics of singing to the Children with her song, “Do-Re-Mi.”

The OFFICIAL TOUR visits this area - and more - exploring other hide-a-ways with spectacular views.
