The cemetery and its catacombs are some of the oldest in the world. Notable personalities, artists and scholars are buried here including, Michael Haydn (composer), Richard Mayr (opera singer), and Mozart’s sister, Nannerl Mozart.
The gated crypts located throughout the cemetery served as the inspiration for the Hollywood sets seen in the The Sound of Music movie, when the von Trapp family hid behind headstones in the cemetery.
Though the actual crypts were never filmed or seen in the movie, there is another part of the cemetery that did appear in the film. Discover its location ... as part of the OFFICIAL TOUR.
